Peer Review Part I

Last week I had my students come up with their own peer review criteria and I used it to make a rubric.  I asked them to write ideas individually and then we shared them as a small group and I wrote them on the board.  The students came up with a variety of points without much prompting from me.  Not everyone could agree that these were the things that they wanted to be critiqued on, however we ended up keeping every suggestion.

The topics they chose are

  • use of school appropriate language
  •  organization
  •  volume
  •  aesthetic slides
  •  clarity/fluency
  • confidence
  • body language/ eye contact
Some of these categories are a little subjective and I didn't want things to get too complicated so I assigned each as 1 point or 0 points. I filled in the rubric with a few notes on what each topic should look like and I added a spot for comments.  On Tuesday we will discuss peer critiques and constructive criticism and watch a short video. I cannot wait to see how they give their presentations and take/give feedback to each other. I think some of them have a little experience with this.  I hope as the year goes on we can get more sophisticated with the presentations and peer reviews.
